![]() Yeah, we had our tools, our code, every assumption we made in how we build loot tables from 2018 onwards has gone in one direction, and now we'd need to just turn back around. I think it was Antorus whenever this happened, just caused problems? So it's not that the team is necessarily ideologically opposed to this, it's just that there is a lot of tech problems and the dissonance. I don't have the ability to promise that all the work to make that happen can occur in just the next few months, but in terms of a long-term heading, that's what we're thinking. But the core experience of killing a raid boss, there's four things on the corpse, figure out what you want to do with those four things - that's something we'd like to get back to. The challenge is, well we spent a solid six years building new foundations, and so it's not just something where you can flip a switch and say "alright, everything works the way it did," but I think there's a lot to be said for keeping personal loot in some spaces like outdoor world, trash in dungeons and raid, I don't think anyone needs group loot trappings there. So yeah, we're taking at hard look at where we want to land going forward. We certainly haven't solved degenerate behavior from world first guilds, if anything it's gotten worse with all the cross server stuff and buyers. Clarity around what's tradeable is pretty bad, the feeling of "hey an item just dropped and it's technically an ilevel upgrade, but I'm not going to use it and I can't give it to my friends" - that feels pretty bad. That was something we wanted to get out of for a bunch of reasons, and at the time we were looking at group loot, saw a bunch of problems with this structure we'd built, and were like "lets tear it down, lets lay new foundations, lets build a new system that's all personal" and over the last few years we've been iterating on it and refining it and adding rules and exceptions, but there's a lot of problems with it. Going back to Legion, we had personal and group loot in parallel, and maintaining two versions of loot in terms of how the data is setup, the UI experience, the code. I kind of do want to bring back master loot, and the team does? It's something we've been reflecting on a lot in the last year, year and a half, looking at places where we and the community have differed over the years and reevaluating some of our thinking. ![]() Why do you not want to bring back master looter? ![]()

(1987) describe how Coccinella septempunctata, already well established in North America, spread through parts of five Canadian provinces and 34 contiguous eastern states of the United States. Since that time the species has gone on to colonize every state in the USA, and every province in southern Canada. Investigations in 1974 into the probable origin of this population indicated that there may have been a connection with the refuse from Kennedy Airport and other transport services that is habitually dumped nearby, rather than with the intentional releases of the Coccinellids in previous years. However, no evidence o? permanent establishment was found until June 1973, when several individuals were collected from Hackensack Meadowlands in Bergen County, New Jersey. (1979) describe how several attempts were made to establish Coccinella septempunctata in the United States by intermittent releases in various localities in 1956-71. Several workers have described the rather ad hoc way by which Coccinella septempunctata, then regarded as a highly efficient predator of aphids, was (eventually) successfully introduced into North America.Īngalet & Jacques (1975) and Angalet et al. Second it has to suppress the numbers of an aphid or coccid species well below the level which it formerly reached in the area, ideally below the economic injury level. Coccinella septempunctata is found throughout Europe, North Africa and most of Asia, and has been introduced to North America and South Africa.Ĭlassical biological control in North AmericaĬlassical biological control is dependent on two outcomes: First a non-native species has to be introduced to an area, usually by mass release, and then become a self-sustaining population. The adults overwinter in sheltered sites often in large aggregations. The fourth instar larva of Coccinella septempunctata (see third picture above) is dark grey-black with mostly black tubercles. The underside of Coccinella septempunctata is more or less completely black. The size of the spots is highly variable. The typical elytral pattern is seven black spots: there is one common spot around the scutellum, and three on each elytron with small white patches on either side of the scutellum, just above the scutellar spot. The ground colour of the elytra is usually red or orange (see first two pictures below), rarely yellow. The pronotum is black, with a pale yellow or white antereolateral spot. The head is black with a pair of semicircular white frontal spots, one on either side of the inner margin of the eyes. The most recent film adaptation of Dune earned more than $400 million in box-office revenue, and when I saw the film with my Mexican Guatemalan American son (who had read the novel in high school), we listened as one of the characters pronounced a speech about the horrors inflicted by an empire. The largest “Latino” city in the United States, Los Angeles, is also the home of a movie and television industry that makes billions of dollars telling empire fantasy stories. As Junot Díaz once put it: without the history of racialist ideologies, X-Men makes no sense without colonialism, Star Wars make no sense and without the history of chattel slavery in the New World, Dune makes no sense. Hollywood takes the history of colonialism and conquest and dresses up the characters in robes and helmets and gives them prop weapons, and it transforms this history into a crowd-pleasing fantasy. In class, or in books, we learn about the ship with captive men and women from the African kingdom of the Ndongo that arrived in the colony of Virginia in 1619 about the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee, and Seminole being forced out of their lands in the Trail of Tears. Bits and pieces of this history have been passed down to us. In the Americas, European conquerors erased ways of life that were alien to them, fought wars, enslaved people, razed temples, and outlawed religions. Few generally vertical structures have ever been less stacklike, and no method of storing books has ever looked less like a shelf. It’s true that the younger side of the Stack mounted toward the ceiling in relatively tidy fashion, like the floors of a high-rise-a concession to its greater proximity to the doorway, and thus to the more trafficked area of the bedroom, where a sudden collapse could have been catastrophic. I have no idea why we called this entity the Stack, considering the word’s orderly connotations of squared-off edges and the shelving areas of libraries. ![]() At all events, the result was a kind of homemade Arc de Triomphe, extremely haphazard-looking but basically stable, made of some three or four hundred books. For some reason, though, the Stack always looked to me as if it had defied gravity (or perhaps obeyed some other, more mysterious force) and grown down the far side of the dresser instead. At some point in the Stack’s development, it had overtopped that piece of furniture, whereupon it met a second tower of books, which, at some slightly later point, had begun growing up along the dresser’s other side. The Stack had started in a recessed space near my father’s half of the bed, bounded on one side by a wall and on the other by my parents’ dresser, a vertical behemoth taller than I would ever be. I suppose back then it was just a modest little pile of stray books, the kind that many readers have lying around in the living room or next to the bed. I can’t remember it in its early days, because in its early days it wasn’t memorable. It was this pair of convictions that led to the development of the Stack. The other, which governed the upstairs books, was instituted by my father, and was based on the conviction that it is very nice to have everything you’ve recently read near at hand, in case you get the urge to consult any of it again and also that it is a pain in the neck to put those books away, especially when the shelves on which they belong are so exquisitely organized that returning one to its appropriate slot requires not only a card catalogue but a crowbar. One of these, which governed the downstairs books, was instituted by my mother, and involved achieving a remarkable harmony-one that anyone who has ever tried to organize a home library would envy-among thematic, alphabetic, and aesthetic demands. When I was a child, the grownup books in my house were arranged according to two principles. ![]() ![]() ![]() Related: Family Beach Resorts in California 4.
